“The 3 R’s” – Deaconess Bev Lund
“In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us” 2 Corinthians 5:19
“School days, school days, dear old golden rule days!” When I was a child, that was the tune we hummed as summer was winding down and we knew school days were returning shortly– back to learning the three R’s – Reading, ‘Riting, & ‘Rithmetic!
Remembering those days reminds me that we are all students in God’s classroom, daily learning the 3 R’s of Redemption, Resurrection and Reconciliation.
Redemption: Jesus has paid the price to redeem us – to free us from bondage to sin, bondage to ourselves, to our egos, liberating us to live the full lives God desires and envisions for us.
Resurrection: In Christ’s resurrection, God said no to death & yes to life– at the end of our earthly existence but also as we live out our lives. In facing all kinds of tragedies, from scary diagnoses to disappointments that fracture our self-esteem, our spirits can plummet but God’s Spirit has a way of miraculously lifting us up to go forward!
Reconciliation: God, through Christ Jesus, took the initiative to reconcile us to God’s Self! And has given us the ministry of reconciliation – the restoration of relationship – a much needed ministry in our day!
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for the gift of Jesus, through whom we have been redeemed & reconciled to you. Continue to grow your gift of love in us that we may live “resurrected” lives to Your glory! Amen.
