DeacPost “Daily Cleansing” Deaconess Eva Schindhelm

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. – Psalm 51:1-2

The weight machines at my local gym each have a large label.  The label tells the name of the machine, which muscles will be exercised, and lists routine maintenance.

Maintenance on the frame and mechanical parts is scheduled for once a week.  The cleansing of the upholstered surfaces, however, is a daily task.  Patrons are requested to towel off the machines after use, but with so many people using them, daily use of a disinfectant cleanser prevents the build-up of dirt and germs on the surfaces that come into contact with hot, sweaty bodies.

Daily confession is for the soul what daily cleansing is for the stuff of this world.  We need daily to believe in our hearts and confess with our lips that we mess up and that only through the love of God is the mess cleaned up.  By this, we become fit for another day’s service to God.

Prayer:  Spirit of God, cleanse us daily, that your love may wash away our sins and make us fit for service to you and to others.  Amen.
