Deaconess Barb Herzinger, consecrated in 1993, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Valparaiso University. Before coming to work at the LDA in April 2022, Barb served for nine years as Director of Youth and Family Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, Indiana. Her first diaconal call was to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Michigan City, Indiana, where she was the Deaconess of Youth and Family Ministry.

Why I love the LDA
I love the LDA because it has shaped and formed me into the woman I am today. When I was in high school, I had a desire to serve and help people in the church, especially youth, to find their voice, to feel valued and welcome, and to know the great love God has for them. The LDA gave me the tools I needed. I was encouraged to grow in faith and knowledge, I became part of a community of faith that is always there for me, and I was given opportunities to serve God by serving with other people. I cannot imagine my life without the LDA and my sister deaconesses and brother deacons.

Outside the LDA
Barb enjoys reading, movies, and theater, going out to dinner with friends, taking lots of photos, and scrapbooking.
