See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. 1 John 3:1
During my first time assisting as a nurse in the delivery room, I met parents who were a few years older than I, successful in jobs and life. They had good humor during the labor. The mother was kind, and the father was supportive. However, my most vivid memory was a certain “look” on their faces.
Delivery was finished; the doctor raised the child; and I saw what true, unbridled, love looks like. The love was palpable as the doctor placed the dried child on the mother’s belly. Tears, gasps, and an ever-present feeling of joy nearly overwhelmed us at that moment. Everyone in the room was crying at this wonderful experience. It was a beautiful day.
Nurses can truly be an extension of Christ as they use hands to help, hold, and heal. But nothing compares to the love of God who looks upon us with favor and gives us peace.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for calling us your children and for giving us glimpses of your love for us in the faces of others. Amen.
