“…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matt. 28:19
One of sister Deaconess Maralyn Marske Walker’s most endearing stories comes from her night chaplaincy volunteer service in the ER at Albany Medical Center. There she met and prayed with a family whose son had been rescued from the river.
Maralyn said that a little while after she had been with the family, she was called back. The family asked her to baptize the child shortly before his life support was removed and he died. She then adds this reflection: that she had been placed in the right place at the right time.
That night, Maralyn was able to bring to a grieving family Christ’s love along with the promise of eternal life through the Baptism of one of God’s children. She had been placed where she was needed, as we often are. May we, too, be open to sharing Christ’s love with those in need.
Prayer: God of grace, make us vehicles of love and joy in this world so others may see you. Amen.
