DeacPost “Raising Milo”

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10 (NRSV)

Raising Milo is a three-person job. He’s a handsome black and white cocker spaniel, who joined our family in April. He entertains us with his puppy-antics: running back and forth between the three of us, jumping up on two legs with such exuberance that he sometimes does a backflip.

He is a ball of energy, even when he comes in at bedtime for his loving pats and rubs. At 6 AM, one of my responsibilities is taking him outside to “do his duty”. Now, after being kenneled all night, one would think he would rush to get it done. However, I’ve learned that you can’t rush a toddler and I’m learning to be patient and allow him time to explore

One beautiful morning, after finally doing what he needed to do, Milo came and sat at my feet. I had never seen him so quiet and calm. He sat quietly for about 10 minutes as I gently petted him. As we sat together, I felt as though God surrounded us in our stillness, speaking peace into my heart.

How often I need God’s reminder to “Be still and know that I am God.” God can even use an active puppy to remind us to sit at our Master’s feet and listen for His voice.

Prayer: Precious Jesus, thank you for spending time with us. We do not always  remember that quiet time with you is important for our relationship. Thank you for the  reminder to be still and know that you are God. In your holy name we pray. Amen
