DeacPost “Mutuality in Ministry”

Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.  Matt 5:4

Our congregation was in turmoil. Our pastor had died suddenly, and the shock of losing someone so young turned us upside down.  The congregation felt like a ship without a rudder.

While in those days we leaned on God and on each other, I was concerned for the youth with whom I worked.  I called, emailed and visited them. Then one day Katie asked to see me. Waiting for her, I prayed that God would give me the strength to comfort her with the right words.

I was in for a surprise. While Katie and I talked about our shared loss, on that day, she was my strength and comfort. God had sent me an angel to meet me in my own need.  What joy to receive care even as I offered it! For the best way ministry happens is when we become a blessing to one another.

Prayer:  Good and Gracious God, thank you for sending people into our lives to bring support just when we need it. Amen.
