“[Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1Corinthians 13:7
It took me quite a while to get to know her. She was one of my residents and her accident had caused severe memory problems. The problems interfered with even the most basic tasks of daily life, frightening her. I could not seem to reach her. For both of us, that meant many tense days and anxious nights.
That Valentine’s Day we planned a special supper and Bible study for the residents. Some people baked cupcakes. Someone surprised us with vases of roses. A song about God’s love seemed appropriate. The struggling woman responded to the song.
And she began to talk. She said the song’s words spoke to her. She said, “I try to remember this – God loves me and is with me through every difficult time.” Then she hugged me and spoke three simple, profound words: “I love you!”
Prayer: Lord, your love runs deeper than words can express. If we forget everything else, remind us of your love. Amen.
