“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
I can still picture the plaque that said “Love One Another” hanging in our house when I was growing up. It moved with us and was displayed in our home every time we relocated.
For me, those words provided comfort during our many moves. They connoted the warmth of stability amidst change, for our family could still “Love One Another.” However, living those words is harder than it seems. It goes beyond just being kind to those we like. It also embraces changes in life. It reshapes and guides us beyond ourselves. When that happens, love trumps all, even amidst life’s changes.
Prayer: Bring your words to life in me, Loving Lord. Reshape my thoughts and feelings. Live in me. Amen.
