DeacPost “God Speaks”

“For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress.” Isaiah 65:17-19 (NRSV)

Fearful times. Worldwide violence and political uncertainty, people who are cold, hungry and suffering, a pandemic still with us. And, for those in the northern hemisphere, the days are short and dark. We only need listen to the news or talk with people to feel the fear.

Still, into just such times, we hear God speaking words through Isaiah, and we long for their fulfillment. God says we should rejoice, for God has already begun this work through Jesus Christ. Through him, God is creating new heavens and a new earth.

During these difficult times, alongside this deep longing, there is God’s promise to live with us in peace and joy! Can we perceive this joyful message around us already? Emanuel; God with us.

Prayer: Come, O-long-expected Jesus, release us today from our fears and sins, and let us live already now in the joy of your coming. Amen.
