DeacPost “God of the Morning Light” Deaconess Diane Marten

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; God’s mercies never come to an end; They are new every morning; Great is God’s faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

God of the morning light wants to have a moment with you.

That was hard for me to imagine when, as a little girl, my mom greeted my sisters and me every morning with: “Time to get up, girls!  It’s a new day!”  I don’t know how she managed to be so cheerful. Mornings can be so hectic.

Get up, let the dog out, wake up the kids and make sure they get ready for their days. There are breakfasts and lunches to make and, if you need to be on time for work outside the house… well, the morning, whizzing by, just doesn’t leave time. And yet – and yet….

God of the morning light wants to have just a moment with you. Yesterday’s stress and busy-ness were put away with the setting sun.  Today’s concerns can be picked up later.  Just now, God of the morning light wants to start the day with you.

So, take a moment to recall one of today’s blessings – something lovely that you’ve noticed. Then allow the God of the morning light to have that moment of your time; for God’s mercies never end.  But they are new every morning.

Prayer:  God of the morning light, in the midst of the busy-ness, help me to notice the blessings of today and give you thanks.  Amen.
