Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits — Psalm 103:1ff
Counting his blessings, as is my husband’s daily habit, recently began with the weather. He would be able to move some flowers to an alternate plot. When blessing number two was finding the TV remote, missing three days, I wondered what would be his blessing number three.
Psalm 103 continues with the psalmist’s own list (v.2-5), and my husband had started me thinking. Not about counting blessings; rather, about the countless blessings that permeate my daily life. While my day begins with prayer, giving thanks for my salvation through Christ, I often take for granted that the day will continue within God’s good and gracious will. Then at day’s end, I rejoice — recognizing that God has indeed been present. I began to reflect upon the caring God’s presence in my daily life. God’s presence: first, second, third and provider of all the countless blessings I receive. That daily presence is a blessing I need to count more often.
Prayer: Loving God, help me to be more aware of the countless blessings of my days, that I may be more grateful for the security and peace that I know. Thank You above all, for the grace I know in Jesus, Christ. Amen.
